Behind the Brand
Born and raised in the breezy coastal community of St. George’s Newfoundland and Labrador, traces of the ocean can be found in my blood.
My father, his father, and many generations before him were commercial fish harvesters, targeting lobster, cod, and herring.
Newfoundlander’s are some of the original DIY people. Born out of necessity driven by low income, remote communities, and lack of services, many of us are also carpenters, mechanics, medics, and chefs without certifications.
Immersed deeply in the art of Mother Nature, many Newfoundlanders are also artists. Using materials provided by nature, items can be created for necessity or pleasure.
As the first generation to leave the commercial fishery, I began my career as a Biologist and Geographic Information Systems technician. After advancing to senior management roles, I eventually transitioned to Indigenous economic development in Newfoundland where I managed 38 Indigenous communal commercial fishing enterprises.
While never participating directly in the commercial fishery, I have never strayed far from the ocean, including its environmental health and economic potential.
The tide has moved me, but after leaving the corporate world, my tether has brought me home.
